GRRRLLLLL
“She Wolf” has nothing in common with Baccara’s “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” outside of the vague disco connection, and yet “Boogie” is the song I frequently came back to when thinking about Shakira’s latest single. Like “Boogie,” “Wolf” delights in its awkwardness, filled with goofy lines such as: “A domesticated girl...

Ugh.
Oh, Sarah:
There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America’s unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won’t bring jobs. Our nation’s debt is unsustainable, and the federal government’s reach into the private sector...
All Apologies
Really, I mean it.
Since last April - when this blog came to a complete stop - I stopped…writing. I was burnt out on school, burnt out with my upcoming graduation, and burnt out by thinking I was burnt out.
That was selfish of me, and for that, I am sorry to the people I may or may not have let down.
Now that I am officially out of school and dealing with the depressing job market of the...

Usually, I have an aversion to web series based on numerous reasons, but I think “Dry Creek” looks and sounds impressive. Also, Ari Rampy with a child how can this be and oh god Riley Clubb has a SHOTGUN that is how I imagine Riley Clubb in real life.

The Different Kinds of People That There Are (At Whitman!)
By Sam Alden
People Who Have Just Started Whatever Book You’re Talking About Oh, Gravity’s Rainbow? I just picked that up. Pynchon’s great, man. Dense stuff, but so rewarding. Cat’s Cradle? Awesome, yeah, I’m just getting into that. Such an important figure in American literature. Pride & Prejudice? A lot of people think...

Interviewer: Hi. This is kind of off topic, but what is the strangest drinking game you’ve ever played?
Anna Faris: . . . I used to go – my friend and I used to go to bars when I was – I still am an obnoxious person, but I was incredibly obnoxious. We used to pretend that we were sociologists taking a survey at local bars, and we would ask people really annoying questions. And – but I liked to – when I was in college – this is also embarrassing, I liked to go to fraternity parties and pretend that I was 15 and see how many guys would still try to sleep with me.

Professor Playlist #1
Compiled by Molly Smith
Molly Smith asked Assistant Professor of Spanish Alberto Galindo what music was in his iPod this week since we always see him walking around with it on campus.
Here’s his top five:
1) Röyksopp - “The Girl & The Robot (feat. Robyn)”
“Norwegian electronica, baby.”
2) La Lupe - “Fever”
“No one has made getting a fever...

Student Listserv Emails, Pt. 1
“I am looking for someone with a black macbook so I can switch out every other key on my white macbook keyboard so as to make a ‘zebra keyboard.’ This will also result in your black macbook having ‘zebra keys’ as well. I’ll handle everything, I just need the macbook.”

Let us merge or we'll die, say local papers →
Seems to me as though we’ve already seen what happens when newspapers become parts of large corporate structures: they become unwieldy and unable to adapt.
Whitman and Twitter
Diversions:
“The Pioneer has 50 followers on Twitter, but only a few are actually a part of the Whitman community and thus, the majority are not going to necessarily be interested in the daily happenings of the college. This raises the question of what we should really be using Twitter for. Should it be a means of updating Whitman-specific information, or a mode of alerting others to...

Live-action children’s lit adaptations tend to be letdowns [ (don’t) see: The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas ], but I have high hopes for Where The Wild Things Are since:
1. Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) is directing.
2. Dave Eggers co-wrote the film with Jonze.
3. Karen O (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Carter Burwell score.
4. It looks beautiful.
There were...
